Use of effect-based method to assess surface water status in the context of the Water Framework Directive

Project background

The current monitoring of priority and other pollutants according to Decree 98/2011, as amended by Section 21 of the Water Act, is not able to capture all sources of pollution that negatively affect surface water quality. For monitoring of toxic substances in surface waters, it is usually recommended to include effect-based monitoring in the Water Framework Directive. Currently available methodologies for the use of effect-based method are not sufficient in the Czech Republic and do not reflect current knowledge in the field. The project is running between 2021 and 2023; it is funded by the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic.
