Drought II - Monitoring the effectiveness of semi-natural measures

The project focuses on comprehensive monitoring of semi-natural measures to eliminate the negative effects of drought. The project is being implemented between 2019 and 2021; it is funded by the Ministry of the Environment of the Czech Republic.

Project background

The effects of drought are more pronounced in the context of climate change. The aim of the project is to help evaluate these impacts.

Project aims

The aim of the project is a comprehensive monitoring of semi-natural measures to eliminate the negative effects of drought in selected pilot areas so that it is possible to evaluate the actual impacts of measures on water retention in the landscape, hydrological regime, and individual components and status assessment indicators, including verification of impacts on aquatic organisms in the monitored pilot areas.

The monitoring also focuses on the issue of the impact of changes in the hydrological regime in watercourses due to the bark beetle outbreak and the resulting implementation of measures in the river basin.

Project methodology

To monitor ecological status, a spatio-temporal monitoring strategy is used within the project. A temporal strategy is used for measures in the river basin. An area monitoring strategy was used to monitor the implemented measure on the Starovický stream.

In terms of the hydrological regime of watercourses, runoff from river basins is monitored in places just below the planned implementation of measures. Limnigraphic stations are supplemented in some places by rain gauges and thermometers. Impact research is carried out in river basins in South Moravia, Rakovník region, Labe region, and Děčín region.
