Possibilities for water recreation in the capital city of Prague (past and present)

From 2018 to 2020, a survey was carried out of potential opportunities for the expansion of places for swimming and water recreation in the capital city of Prague. From about 150 places, 57 were selected where the water quality was monitored and their condition and potential were evaluated. To assess the water quality of these sites, in cooperation with the NIPH and as an alternative to Decree 238/2011 Coll., “Indicative assessment of the current state of natural bathing areas” was designed and used for evaluation (satisfactory and satisfactory with reservation – water suitable for bathing; unsatisfactory – water unsuitable for bathing).

The map application (web map viewer) is the current clear interactive output of the study “Possibilities of water recreation in the capital city of Prague (past and present)”, the main benefit of which is to increase the awareness of Prague citizens in terms of water recreation. The absence of a reliable internet information source was discovered via a questionnaire survey.

The map application, developed within the project “Prague – Growth Pole II”, 2018-2020, is available here. Its main purpose is to present current and historical information about the possibilities of water recreation in Prague and data on new opportunities collected within the project. The map viewer contains relevant layers that allow setting different views according to the user’s interests. Selected layers contain additional information (e.g. photographs, water quality data, graphs, websites, protected areas).
